A Not-For-Profit Charity Raising Money and Awareness to Help Others Affected by Cancer
Karsyn’s Krusaders is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) charity started in 2010 by Andy and Jessica Miller to raise money and awareness of cancer, with a focus on childhood cancer. Karsyn’s Krusaders is a dirt track automotive racing-based cancer charity that works with drivers, race tracks and race fans across the country. The charity’s motto, “Kickin’ Cancer’s Butt One Lap at a Time®”, the logo and name is based on the Millers’ daughter Karsyn who was diagnosed with high risk leukemia at age 3 in 2008. Karsyn was successfully treated and today is a vibrant little girl who continues to be the inspiration for the charity that helps children and their families across the country.
Karsyn’s Krusaders Board of Directors
The Karsyn’s Krusaders Board of Directors continually seeks organizations and explores projects that fit our mission and vision with the goal of making the most impact in the lives of others who are working to ‘Kick Cancer’s Butt’.
Why Karsyn’s Krusaders? Why not? By trade, I am a Certified Paralegal that worked in litigation for 11 years before choosing to use my business degree and join Andy at Service Roofing in hopes it would give more flexibility and offer a tad less stress. Little did I know, it would be less than two years later that I would enter the most stressful time of my life and need the flexibility more than ever. When cancer hit our family, it was difficult to be on the receiving end of such kindness and support. There was no doubt that we were going to give back, we just didn’t know how at the time. The impact we make through KK far outweighs the volunteer hours and in-kind donations we give. KK is what completes me. I am truly blessed to have the opportunity to use my passions – racing and giving – to fulfill my purpose of making a difference in the lives of others affected by cancer.
For the past 22 years, I have spent my days working in low-slope commercial roofing as a partner at Service Roofing. I volunteer my time to KK because I have witnessed first-hand what simple actions and giving can do to provide comfort as a family watches their child battle cancer. It didn’t matter if it was Make-A-Wish, Give Kids the World, the U of I Foundation, or Dance Marathon, they all significantly impacted our family. It is important to me to give to those families that are experiencing similar types of circumstances, and KK is our way of doing it.
I am originally from the suburbs of Chicago, but I decided to attend the University of Northern Iowa to study accounting. I graduated with my Master’s degree in May 2013. I have been with BerganKDV since September 2013 and I received my CPA License in 2014. In my free-time I currently enjoy spending time with my fiancée, planning our wedding, volunteering with KK or with Sunrise Exchange Club, and watching the Cubs. My mother was diagnosed with cancer when I was 9, thankfully she is now cancer free, but I have seen the kind of toll that cancer can take on a family. That is why I’m so happy to be a part of an organization like KK and help those in need.

I am honored to serve on the Karsyn’s Krusaders Board of Directors in memory of my nephew Dominic who lost his battle to DIPG (Diffuse Instrinsic Pontine Giloma), a childhood brain tumor cancer. I have grown up in Northeast Iowa and live in Calmar, Iowa with my husband and our husky, LaKota. For the past 23 years, I have worked at TriTech Software Systems and currently hold the position of Human Resources Business Partner for our Decorah office and staff throughout the US. On the weekends in the summer, you will find me working at the Upper Iowa Speedway in Decorah as an official. In 2013, I was selected for the Northeast Iowa Community College Hall Of Fame for the work I did with Extreme Home Makeover show and other community activities. Most importantly I love spending time with my family and our husky.

In 2009 my son Cameron, who was 3 at the time, was diagnosed with leukemia and changed my life forever. In 2010 I was introduced to the Miller’s and KK. I started volunteering at KK events and in 2012 I was asked to join the Board of Directors which I gladly accepted. Since then KK has made numerous donations to childhood cancer projects in several different states. I have a BA in Public Administration from Upper Iowa University. In my spare time I have been a Reserve Police Officer for the City Of Independence for 18 years . I help Coach River’s Edge Baseball, Independence Mustang Archery and Independence Park and Rec baseball. Brodi, Cameron and I spend our time playing sports, hunting, fishing and RACING
